UNITED
WAY
A
Non- Profit Organization
United Way is a
non-profit organization responsible for providing the community with the
necessary help with the basic needs that each family has. In addition to this,
it works in conjunction with other non-profit organizations. They seek to
create FAMILY SUCCESS CENTERS in which children and parents are taught English,
computers, budgeting classes, and are taught rights classes of tenants. All of
these for families to reach their potential through education and income
stability.
The funds raised
by this organization come from donations made by the state and the federal
government; these funds are used to continue with the various tasks that a
government should do but for obvious reasons such as that the nation is
enormous, and they do not know They can take care of everything, but rather
give the money to organizations like this one. However, the funds raised are
not used as profits or benefits for the organization's members, as is the case
in a business or for-profit entity. This organization generates a significant
impact in our community because it supports hundreds of families in their most
vulnerable moments. It should be noted that having permanent staff must draw
from those funds received to pay its employees, although it has voluntary
staff.
My responsibility
in which I was developing my days as a volunteer in this organization was to
make the files of the people whom they have helped monetarily to pay their
rent, in addition to making calls to follow up with those people on how they
have done, if they have got a job, or if they have been able to establish
themselves economically. In addition to these, they also asked me to help them
make the centers' calendars to be able to see what activities will be available
in our community in April and send these calendars to all the organizations in
the union county. On the other hand, I was helping with the copies of certain
papers to make the monthly reports since I went for the end of the month.
